I'm sure most of us have suffered from an artist's block. Artist's blocks are frustrating and suffocating and I HATE THEM. I have been trying to find ways to lift those darn blocks and would like to share them. Here are some ways that have helped me.
1) Change of medium- I get bored very easily, what can I say! I find that a change of medium helps me to spark that creative fire. Plus, it seems like it makes me a better manipulator of my main medium by learning others.
2) Redo a piece of your past- You know you can do it, but try to do it better.
3) Finish a piece, no matter how daunting- I have so many pieces that I need to finish, but for so many reasons, haven't. Finishing a piece, no matter how old it is, not only gives it an old and new touch of your skills, but completing something really helps me to want to continue with my art and start new pieces.
4) Take requests- Admittingly, I am horrible with taking requests. It's like when I was in school and a teacher wanted me to read a book for an assignment. I love to read, but hated it when someone wanted me to. So, why do I suggest this? It helps to know your watchers in an underlined kind of way and it keeps that flow of thoughts and ideas going.
5) Watch creative shows while doodling- I love to watch shows like FACEOFF, Bob Ross, Heroes of Cosplay, and numerous cooking shows. <---Even though I get hungry half way through.
6) Create challenges for yourself- Make yourself work within a time limit, use a different color scale, draw with your other hand.
7) Get a friend and play squiggle- Have he/she draw a random shape or line and draw something from that.
What do you do to lift that darn block? I would LOVE to hear about it.
